Sweet Potato Casserole
You will love this comforting and delicious sweet potato casserole so much that it will become a traditional side at your Thanksgiving table. This easy-to-prepare dish combines weet potatoes, brown sugar, butter , and a hint of spices. If you prepare it ahead of time, be sure to warm it up prior to serving!
Sweet Potato Casserole
Ingredients
- 10 sweet potatoes
- 1 stick unsalted butter, cut into pieces
- ⅔ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup light brown sugar
- ½ cup honey
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1 ¾ teaspoons salt
- ½ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 2 ½ cups hot milk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 stick unsalted butter (4 ounces cut into /2 -inch dice and chilled)
- Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Spread the sweet potatoes on a baking sheet and bake for about 1 hour and twenty minutes.
- Let cool for 10 minutes, then peel.
- Heat oven to 375 degrees.
- In a large bowl, beat the sweet potatoes on low speed for thirty seconds.
- Beat in the butter.
- Add the granulated sugar, brown sugar, honey, vanilla, salt, and nutmeg–beat until blended.
- Add the eggs and beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
- Reduce the speed to low and gradually add the hot milk.
- Grease (with butter or non-stick spray) a 13”x 9” x 2” baking dish, pour in the sweet potatoes, and spread in an even layer.
- In a medium bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Add the butter and cut it in until the mixture is coarse.
- Sprinkle the topping evenly over the potatoes and bake for 1 hour, until the topping is golden brown and crisp.
Serve warm!
