Sweet Potato Casserole

You will love this comforting and delicious sweet potato casserole so much that it will become a traditional side at your Thanksgiving table. This easy-to-prepare dish combines weet potatoes, brown sugar, butter , and a hint of spices. If you prepare it ahead of time, be sure to warm it up prior to serving!

Sweet Potato Casserole

Ingredients

  • 10 sweet potatoes 
  • 1 stick unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • ⅔ cup granulated sugar 
  • ½ cup light brown sugar 
  • ½ cup honey
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 
  • 1 ¾ teaspoons salt 
  • ½ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 2 ½ cups hot milk 
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour 
  • 1 cup light brown sugar 
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon 
  • ½ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg 
  • ¼ teaspoon salt 
  • 1 stick unsalted butter (4 ounces cut into /2 -inch dice and chilled) 

  • Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. 

  1. Spread the sweet potatoes on a baking sheet and bake for about 1 hour and twenty minutes. 
  2. Let cool for 10 minutes, then peel.
  3. Heat oven to 375 degrees.
  4. In a large bowl, beat the sweet potatoes on low speed for thirty seconds.
  5. Beat in the butter. 
  6. Add the granulated sugar, brown sugar, honey, vanilla, salt, and nutmeg–beat until blended. 
  7. Add the eggs and beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. 
  8. Reduce the speed to low and gradually add the hot milk.
  9.  Grease (with butter or non-stick spray) a 13”x 9” x 2” baking dish, pour in the sweet potatoes, and spread in an even layer.
  10. In a medium bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. 
  11. Add the butter and cut it in until the mixture is coarse. 
  12. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the potatoes and bake for 1 hour, until the topping is golden brown and crisp. 

Serve warm!
