The Best Black Bean Burgers

These black bean burgers are easy to prepare, flavorful, and delicious. The black beans are combined with cornmeal, salsa, and spices, to create a substantial meatless patty. This black bean burger is perfect for lunch, dinner, or a BBQ–and it is so delicious, I PROMISE you will not miss the meat!  

Ingredients:

(2) 15 ounce cans of black beans, rinsed and drained

¼ cup of cornmeal

½  cup of all purpose flour

½ cup of mild salsa

1 teaspoon of garlic powder

2 teaspoons of ground cumin

Hamburger buns

Lettuce (optional)

Tomato (optional)

Avocado (optional)

Directions:

  1. Place beans in a food processor and process until fairly smooth (leave some pieces of beans intact)
  2. Add cornmeal, flour, salsa, garlic, and cumin, and process until ingredients are combined.
  3. Line a plate or sheet with parchment paper. Spoon mixture into six large balls.  Refrigerate for at least two hours.
  4. Coat a grill, a pan or a griddle lightly with oil, and heat. Place the patties on the cooking surface, and cook 4-5 minutes per side-until browned and heated through.
  5. Serve on buns with lettuce and tomato (and avocado if you choose) or in lettuce wraps!
